Dropped Object Surveys

DSL has been a leading provider of dropped object surveys and associated support services since before the Dropped Object Prevention Scheme (DROPS) initiative was first launched, working for drilling contractors and operators worldwide. Because our core business is drilling structures, dropped-object consideration is intertwined with almost everything we design, build and install — and our surveys have evolved to cover the complete installation, from derricks, masts and substructures to cranes, flare stacks, helideck structures, jack houses and internal areas.

Our approach is practical and pro-active: survey teams resolve as many issues as possible on site, reducing the faults carried in the final report and the actions left to close out afterwards. Teams are drawn from our pool of offshore personnel — rope-access trades, inspection personnel and rig-building crews — with lead surveyors qualified as trainers for dropped object surveying.

Surveys are conducted and reported through our RigCentral software. We can also implement a complete DROPS management system for your organisation, provide inspection formats for rig crews to use between our visits, or audit and improve your existing system. Further savings are available by combining derrick and lifting-equipment inspections in the same trip.
