API Inspections

DSL derrick inspectors are trained to conduct API 4G drilling structure inspections, and DSL is an API 4F licensed company for the design and manufacture of drilling structures and API 8C for crown blocks and hoisting systems. Both the inspector and the company are therefore properly qualified for the inspection of your drilling structure — whether it is a derrick, mast and substructure, trailer rig, carrier rig, derrick equipment set or any other drilling structure.

Derrick and mast related incidents still account for an unacceptable share of rig accidents, and inspection by unqualified companies or personnel adds risk rather than removing it. The qualification and competency of both the company and the inspector designated to inspect your drilling structure matter: DSL carries out API 4G Cat III & IV inspections all over the world on a day-to-day basis, and can additionally train drill crews to undertake their own API Cat I & II inspections between third-party visits.

Where an inspection identifies deterioration — such as internal corrosion of hollow-section members that conventional inspections often miss — our in-house engineering team can quantify the impact through structural analysis and engineer the repair or replacement of affected members to the relevant specification.
